Everything you need to know before starting work

Practical information

Planning to work in the Netherlands? Then it is important to have everything properly arranged. For example, where you will live, how you will get to work and which documents or formalities you need before you can start working.

On this page, you will find all the practical information you need in one place. We clearly explain accommodation, transport, insurance and your Sofi number, so you know exactly what to expect.

Good accommodation

Good accommodation is an important part of your work experience in the Netherlands. A comfortable place to live allows you to rest properly and feel at ease both at work and after work. That is why we make sure you live in a clean, safe and comfortable environment, close to your workplace and essential amenities such as shops and public transport.

Our accommodation is carefully selected and fully furnished. You do not have to worry about the essentials, as everything is already taken care of. This allows you to settle in quickly and feel at home from day one, so you can focus on your work and your new surroundings.

Convenient transport

Once you start working in the Netherlands, transport to and from work is well organised. We work with reliable and certified transport partners, so you can travel to your workplace safely and comfortably.

Throughout your employment, daily transport between your accommodation and workplace is provided. With modern vehicles, you can get to work safely and without hassle every working day. This means you can focus fully on your job while your transport is taken care of.

Important: You are responsible for arranging your own journey to the Netherlands. This journey is not organised and the costs are not reimbursed. The transport service is provided from the moment you start working in the Netherlands.

Properly arranged insurance

When you work in the Netherlands through us, you will be covered by Dutch health insurance (ZZ). This insurance is mandatory and ensures that you can receive medical care when needed.

The insurance premiums are handled automatically, so you do not have to worry about arranging them yourself. This way, you can be sure that everything is properly taken care of.

Legal work in the Netherlands

If you want to work in the Netherlands, you need a Sofi number, also known as a BSN number. This is a personal social security and tax identification number used by the Dutch tax authorities, for example to calculate your salary and pay taxes.

A Sofi number is only issued upon presentation of a valid passport or identity card and is provided by the Dutch tax authorities.

Without this number, you cannot receive your salary. However, having a Sofi number alone does not mean that you are allowed to work in the Netherlands. Your employer uses this number to register you with the tax authorities and confirm your employment.

How you will live in the Netherlands

You will usually stay in a shared room for two people in a house, apartment or hotel. All accommodation has a kitchen, washing machine and basic amenities. You only need to bring your own bedding and personal belongings.
